Training
Firefighters with the Signal Hill Fire Department receive training on a wide variety of subject areas throughout the year, to enhance their skills, abilities, and knowledge of how to respond to and mitigate emergency situations.
Recruit firefighters begin learning the equipment and the basics of responding to emergencies. The majority of this training comes from within the department, and the instructors are members of the department.
To further enhance a firefighters education, Southwestern Illinois College offers classes in Fire Science. These courses include basic firefighting, Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, and a wide variety of administrative classes.
Signal Hill Firefighters are always encouraged to continue their education.

Propane Burn

Presented by the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute, Signal Hill hosted a propane burn class on October 10, 2011. Northwest, Villa Hills and Fairview fire departments were also in attendance as firefighters learned how to safely deal with fire involving liquid propane tanks.
