Fire Prevention
Some people may think of Fire Prevention as that one time during the year when the Fire Dept talks to children about fire safety. While that is partially true, fire prevention goes much farther than school talks. Fire prevention is a year round function and includes education in many areas that many realize. While on an emergency call at a residence, the fire department makes every effort to assure the occupants have functioning smoke detectors, and are educated about their emergency. The fire department conducts fire extinguisher training for employees at their place of business. Officers must inspect businesses yearly for the safety of their patrons. They must also work closely with the water company to be sure the fire hydrants will work at optimum efficiency during a fire.
Above are some pictures of the department talking to groups of children about fire safety. Firefighters dress out in full gear with breathing tanks so the children can see what the firefighter looks like before and after applying the gear. The hope is that children will not hide from firefighters during an emergency. Children are also educated on other issues including the use of 911, not playing with matches, and various other safety issues.
